Life in Egypt Under Roman Rule
Published in Paperback by Clarendon Pr (July, 1987)
Average review score:

OutstandingThis is my favorite Egyptian history book. Lewis in one small volume brings Egypt during the period of Roman rule to life in the pages in front of you. The book draws from thousands of papyrus documents collected in Egypt over the years. As you might expect, these mostly deal with the minutia of daily life, contracts and prayers, polemics and taxes, and Lewis's book uses theses to tell his story. The book is highly readable, enjoyable, and I recomend it to any one with an interest in any period in Egypt (after all, how much did the Nile change between 1000 BC and 300 AD).

The Life of Theodore Roosevelt
Published in Paperback by Epaulet Books (March, 2001)
Average review score:

One of the BestOf science-fiction novels, of cold-war novels, of serious American novels -- one of the very best. But then so is another Budrys novel, "Rogue Moon". "Who?" was made into a disappointing film; "Rogue Moon" awaits an animator perhaps not yet born. But both should be cherished first as books.

Life's A Journey - Not A Sprint: Navigating Life's Challenges and Finding Your Pathway to Success
Published in Hardcover by Hay House (May, 2003)
Average review score:

A little life encouragement...A little life encouragement, that is how I would classify Life's A Journey- Not A Sprint by Jennifer Lewis-Hall. Noted life experiences, personal interviews and insight from noted psychologist Dr. Alvin Poussaint, makes Mrs. Hall's book an added treat to ones motivational book collection.
Life's A Journey - Not A Sprint offers readers personal, professional and spiritual motivation for those reader who sprint through the twists and turns of everyday life. From finding your own niche (my favorite), to focusing on healthy living, to build better relationships, Mrs. Hall offers readers a plethora of information that will apply to their specific situation. This is a book that any woman would enjoy reading. -LC

Lights, Camera, Democracy!
Published in Digital by At Random ()
Average review score:

American journalism at its bestLewis Lapham is a national treasure and a rare find in this age of media mergers and global conformatity. I have been a fan since I read his groundbreaking Money and Class in America and his scathing Waiting for Barbarians. In this new volume, mainly culled from Harper's,a monthly he edits, he proofs yet again that our elected officials are for sale to the highest bidder and the credulous masses are kept quiet on a sour diet of banal entertainment and saccarine piety. Highly recommended!

Lincoln-Douglas Debate: Values in Conflict
Published in Hardcover by Clark Pub Co (November, 2000)
Average review score:

A great Lincoln-Douglas textbookAmid a forest of mediocre texts and handbooks that do little to improve one's understanding of LD, Wiese's book stands almost alone in providing clear and useful explanations of issues in LD debate.Wiese's textbook is ideally suited to use in the classroom with students who have little or no experience in LD debate.Teachers and coaches who take Lincoln-Douglas debate seriously should not hestiate to invest in this valuable teaching aid.

The Lion's Way
Published in Paperback by Kensington Pub Corp (Mass Market) (June, 1987)

Storyline ....Since Amazon didn't post an editorial review, here's a quote from the back of the book to help to you decide if this book is for you: "This is the compelling saga of men and women torn between family and tradition, ambition and fame, passion and need ... a story of the troubled and talented Daniel Kirshbaum, whose struggle to rise above his poor immigrant heritage becomes the driving force in his life. It is a tapestry of lives interwoven and intermingled, a world of glamor and ghettos, crime and passion, love and hate, war and peace, triumphs and tears -- and above all, of one man's unrelenting determination to survive ... an all-consuming saga that spans four generations in the life of a fascinating, gifted man, and the remarkable women who enriched his world."

The Little Alice Editions: Alice's Adventures in Wonderland/Through the Looking-Glass
Published in Hardcover by E P Dutton (November, 1988)
Average review score:

Darling presentationI don't see it listed here at the time of this review, so I'll list the details on this item since I own it. Complete and unagridged with all the original illustrations by Sir John Tenniel including 16 full-color plates. 2 small books about as big as my palm in a cardboard box / sleeve type case. Charming.

Living Biographies of Great Philosophers
Published in Audio Cassette by Blackstone Audiobooks (November, 2001)
Average review score:

one of the few essential philosophy booksA very rare book that brings Heart and Soul as well as Intellect to the reviewing table. In consequence Neitzsche and Schopenhauer are completely debunked, whilst Plato, Socrates, Hume, Kant et al are rightly given their due positions on the high table. Easy to read, easy to digest, fascinating and luminous. This book could save you hundreds of hours you might otherwise have spent unnecessarily wading through dense philosophical tomes. There is nothing else quite like it, when it comes to understanding the western philosophers in an objective context. It is both truly astonishing and a sad reflection of the times that no one else has reviewed this book before.

Living In, Living Out: African American Domestics and the Great Migration
Published in Paperback by Kodansha International (May, 1996)
Average review score:

Living In Living OutThis book is a wonderful account of how African-American women made it at the turn of the century. I enjoyed reading how these women made a difference in the lives of the people and children in their families. This book showed me just how strong Black women are. It allowed me to see that they had the strength to go on and face any adversary that came into their lives. Any woman or person facing obstacles in their lives can pick up this book and know that they can makeit. That's what this book did for me. I know that there is nothing that I can't do. It's a book that I will one day want my now 10 year old daughter to rad and pass along to her daughter.

Lock On No.8 : McDonnell Douglas F-4E Phantom II
Published in Paperback by Verlinden Productions, Inc. (01 April, 1990)
Average review score:

Close up---Very detailed photos of an F-4E PhantomThis book has very nice, detailed color photos of an F-4E Phantom. If you are looking for close-up photos of an F-4 Phantom, this is the book for you. Book covers the exterior, the pilot and WSO interiors, the GE J-79 engine, the 20mm cannon, landing gear, wings/flaps, radar, access panels, etc..... My uncle flew F-4D Phantoms at Homestead AFB (Florida) in the mid 80's and now flys the F-16 Falcon. The first time I saw a Phantom, I fell in love. The only problem Lock On No: books, is that they are about 40 pages in length, I wish the book had more pages.
